I need to get a camera so I may relay my facial expressions about amazing new songs like what I am about to write on. I still think video reviews could be useful for everyone to hear me scream and moan while I describe how awful bands like Osaka Popstar can get. Then i could assault Youtube with my good looks and charming personality. Though, the prospect of youtube commenters is a bit of a turn off. -_-
Anyway, today I am starting a new tidbit on this site called Single Source Selection. I know what most of you kids from the states are saying: “What the fuck is a single?” All of those lovely music video’s you fiend after late at night are singles from albums. The rest of the world still hypes their albums up with putting out a new song (generally with a b-side and/or remixes) from their up coming album with special artwork. In this wave of digital only it is much easier to whore your art out in small doses. I’m surprised we don’t see more singles here in the states. I think much of the rap and electronic scene still use singles. I know of one band that does, and after a 9 year break up they are fucking back. ATARI TEENAGE RIOT!!! You can’t imagine how stoked I am to see these guys back in action. The world seemed to be crumbling back in 2001 when MC Carl Crack died of heart failure. Fuck you heroine! You take all our great musicians from us way to early. Alec Empire and Nic Endo never missed a beat. They continued on with Empire’s solo material and put to rest ATR. There was no closure and no goodbye. Everyone had been waiting, but thought there was no hope because Carl had died. There were also some issues with Hanna Ellis becoming a whiney bitch about her contract. I don’t know specifics, but I think she probably would have left anyway.
Low and behold my utter surprise when I find out that just a couple of months ago Atari Teenage Riot reformed. The worst case scenarios were running rampant in my mind. Not all bands that get back together can do what they were up to and effectual and relevant again. I should have just never worried…at all. With the reformation came a new single called “Activate”. This track…oh wow, this track. It’s like ATR never had time off; never missed a beat. In the place of MC Carl Crack we have MC CX Kidtronik. I know many were skeptical about this fill in. I mean Crack was an founder of the band and a driving MC. It’s kind of like taking a high performance tire off of a GTO and putting on a bicycle tire instead. However, Kidtronik is a goddamn beast! He’s done work with Nine Inch Nails and Kanye West (douche bag). The guy is a pure breed cyberpunk in the truest of terms. He has been DJing and making beats and screwy music since the mid 80’s. I think he is the only proper person to fill in for Crack. So with a proper person filling in for Carl Crack what about the track?
Holy fuck! When Atari Teenage Riot starts the engines they aren’t fucking around. The new single “Activate!” is everything and more that we have been waiting nine years for. It is truly RELEVANT to our current political state. This just doesn’t apply to the United States, but to the rest of the world. I mean ATR is from Germany so it would be from a German’s perspective, but I find it very relevant for the states. ATR is still cutting edge and the digital hardcore moniker is the only thing that describes them. This song sounds like it could have come off of “60 Second Wipeout”. It makes me want to break shit and start a revolution. Definitely what they have in mind. They are encouraging their fans to get this single for free: Bootleg it, steal it, or send it to your friends. Just get this and support ATR. Their anti-government revolutionary messages will melt your face off. Oh and if Nic Endo so happens to ever read this I’d like her to know that I want to father her children! No only is she gorgeous, but she’s super smart and talented. Plus I respect a woman that would kick stomp my face in a bizarre mating ritual.
I'm Hydro and this has been your single source selection.
